Happy World Wildlife Day 2025: Investing in People and Planet

Gabriella Gerbasi March 3, 2025

As someone deeply connected to the ocean, World Wildlife Day has special meaning for me. Over the last few years, I’ve been fortunate enough to have some of the most incredible encounters with marine animals—humpback whales breaching in the distance, manta rays gracefully gliding past me, sharks weaving through coral, and vibrant ecosystems teeming with life. Each of these experiences has strengthened my connection to the ocean and deepened my commitment to protecting the creatures that call it home.

Gabriella Gerbasi August 3, 2024

Sharks are often misunderstood and feared, but they play a crucial role in maintaining the health and balance of our marine ecosystems. As apex predators, they regulate the populations of other marine species, ensuring that the ecosystem remains balanced and healthy. By preying on the sick, weak, or old, sharks help keep fish populations robust and diverse, preventing any single species from dominating and disrupting the ecosystem.

Shark Squalene: Protecting Marine Life with Sustainable Alternatives

Gabriella Gerbasi July 9, 2024

Squalene, a natural oil found in shark liver, has been used in cosmetics and skincare products for its moisturizing properties. However, the demand for squalene has led to the overfishing of sharks, putting many species at risk. Millions of sharks are killed each year solely for their liver oil, contributing to the decline of shark populations and disrupting marine ecosystems.

Welcome to My Life in Shades of Blue!

Gabriella Gerbasi January 5, 2023

Gabriella Gerbasi - Ocean child passionate about ocean conservation and sustainability. I’m a waterwoman living life in shades of blue. Whether it’s freediving, spearfishing, scuba diving or boating I try to spend as much time as I can in the water.

The sea is my second home. The ocean is central to my existence, it is where I go to exercise, to explore, to fish and feed myself. For me, the ocean is a source of energy and power. It calms my mind and recharges my body. When I’m in the water, I experience joy and contentment. I delight in the sea, I can taste the life in the water.

Pristine waters, vibrant coral reefs, and an ocean full of life both above and below the surface. We dove Rainbow Reef and saw some of the most beautiful reefs I’ve ever experienced—so much life on the bommies, it was a truly magical underwater world. 🐠
